Our Articling Program

Students may begin articles in Newfoundland after completion of two years of law school. Clerks will often join us for three months of articling between the second and third year of their legal studies and will return for the final nine months after completion of third year. Students may also join us after completing law school for twelve months of continuous articles. During most summers we employ one or more students who have completed only their first year of law school and who cannot yet begin serving their articles.

As required by the Law Society Rules students enter into articles with one of our lawyers who will act as the student's principal. At our firm students do not follow a formal rotation among practice areas. Instead, students are expected to work with all our lawyers as the need for their services arises and as the opportunity for exposure to different areas of the law becomes available. The student's principal and our Articling Committee are responsible for ensuring that the student receives a broad exposure to all areas of practice. We encourage client contact and attendance in court whenever possible. We seek to involve students in major commercial and litigation matters where they will have the opportunity to work closely with our senior practitioners.

Salary and Benefits
